We will help find the simplest solution for your operation and underrated if you need a standard rules or bespoke permit potentially saving you time and money.

Permit and Environment Management System Reviews

Business models change, sites expand, staff change and the equipment and techniques used to recycle and recover waste continue to change and as result you compliance may change.

Severn Compliance can complete a permit and Environment Management System (EMS) review, we can then work with you to understand what if any changes need to be made to bring your site back into compliance. Once a plan has been made we can then make the relevant changes to you permit (variation) and update you EMS.

Permit Variations

As your operation and site change so will your permit. The permit you were first issued may not reflect your current operation and as a result you will be out of compliance with your permit.

We can help you vary your permit when required, from adding additional permitted area, increasing your tonnages or adding waste types can take care of the full complete process.

Permit Transfers

You may be in possession and need to pass it on to another individual company or business due to a business or land sale.

We can take care of the full permit transfer process for you ensuring the correct person or business is permitted for the activities taking place on the site.

Permit Surrenders

If an environmental permit is no longer required it will need surrendering to avoid unnecessary annual fees.

Permit Compliance Support

Fire Prevention Plans

The increased need for a fire prevention plans from both the Environment Agency and Insurers has seen pressure placed on operators to comply. We work with local fire brigades and fire suppression installers to create fire plans that work for your operations. We ensure that your fire prevention plan meets your operational needs, your insurer’s requirements and the Environment Agency’s Fire Prevention Plan guidance.

Noise and dust Management Plans

Working with established and respected noise and dust monitoring specialists we can establish the impact that your operation is having or may have and understand how to reduce the impact from your operation.

We like to establish the facts and establish if there is actually a measurable impact or if it’s local perception.

Environmental Management Systems

Certified as external ISO auditors we know how to both build and audit Environmental Management System (EMS).

An EMS is key to compliance and often the first permit condition an operator must be compliant with. Ensuring your EMS is both functional and that you can operate to it are essential and we will help you achieve this.

Duty of care and waste returns

The movement of all waste is covered by the Duty of Care Regulations. Ensuring your waste is described correctly when it arrives and leaves your site is both vital for complying with the Duty of Care Regulations and your environmental permit.

We can complete duty of care audits across your operations. We can then use this information to help you complete your waste returns to the Environment Agency and ensuring you use the correct European Waste Catalogue (EWC) code.

COTC Cover

With the requirement for a Technically Competent Manager on all permitted waste sites all sites require cover.

We can offer Technically Competent Manager cover form Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) qualified staff.

Managing Complaints

Many waste management operations have the potential to create complaints from neighbouring businesses and local residents. These complaints can be due to noise, dust, odour or litter. In some circumstance complaints are made to the regulator and enforcement actions may occur.

Severn Compliance can help liaise with both the complainants and the regulator to understand the full circumstances, whilst also working with you to identify ways to manage the problem. We can then create the relevant plans and manage the problem back to compliance.

Liaising with the regulator and enforcement

Severn Compliance is run by former Environment Agency staff. We are happy to engage with your regulator if you have compliance issues. We can challenge decisions if we feel there are grounds to do this or simply explain the rules and guidance that is being quoted. If a compliance issue has moved to enforcement we can help you manage the situation to the best outcome.

We aim to form a working relationship and help you move forwards towards compliance and ultimately allow you to work with the regulator in confidence.
